Description

PURPOSE: To stretch and develop the long head of the triceps. The overhead position puts the long head in a fully stretched position, which is essential for complete development. EXECUTION: (1) Seated or standing, hold a single dumbbell with both hands (or one dumbbell in each hand) overhead with arms fully extended. (2) Keeping your upper arms close to your head and stationary, lower the weight behind your head by bending at the elbows. (3) Extend back to the starting position, squeezing the triceps at the top. KEY TIPS: Keep your elbows pointed forward and close to your head—don't let them flare out. Get a full stretch at the bottom. This exercise is particularly important for developing the long head, which gives the triceps that full, thick look from the side.
