Description

Sit at a lat pulldown machine, grasp the wide bar with an overhand grip. Pull the bar down to your upper chest while leaning back slightly, then return to full arm extension. This is essentially a machine version of the pull-up that allows you to use less than bodyweight (for beginners) or more precise weight selection. Arnold used pulldowns as a complement to pull-ups, particularly for higher-rep sets and drop sets. Variations: wide grip (outer lats), close grip (lower lats), reverse grip (biceps emphasis).
